Shopping tips

Before you pack

Check the expiry date

Snacks, milk tablets, jam and honey all carry short dates. Turn the pack over before you buy a boxful — market and airport stock moves slower than 7-Eleven stock.

Buy cosmetics from official stores

Every cosmetic and medicine on this page is sold at Boots, Watsons, EVEANDBOY, Beautrium, Big C or Lotus's. Buying from these chains means genuine products and printed prices — avoid unbranded street stalls for skincare.

Pack fragile and liquid items properly

Wood carvings, scented candles, silver and jam jars need to sit in the middle of your suitcase wrapped in clothes. Honey, jam, essential oils and coconut oil are liquids — checked luggage only.

Hand-luggage rules

Anything liquid, cream or gel over 100 ml must go in checked luggage. Balms, inhalers, dry snacks, silk, magnets and keychains are all fine in your carry-on.

Airport & duty free

King Power and the Chiang Mai Airport shops carry PANPURI, HARNN, Royal Project coffee and tea, magnets, postcards and coin souvenirs — convenient, but in-town prices are lower.

Know the price ranges

Snacks 10–70 THB, drinks 10–40 THB, balms and inhalers 20–180 THB, cosmetics 89–650 THB, craft souvenirs 10–1,500 THB, premium fragrance gift sets 500–3,000 THB. Market prices are negotiable; chain-store prices are fixed.
